Easter! What a great opportunity to escape day-to-day city life and re-energize off grid. Being the wine & food enthusiasts we are, what better place to choose than Toscana?

Unfortunately the only direct flight that day was a 6.10am departure, meaning gate closing 5.40am, arrival at airport 4.40am, taking the bus across town at 3.10am and going to bed at…. never mind. No sleep that night, only coffee.

A short flight (1h10), taxi ride (15m), train ride (1h10) and car ride (3h30) later we arrived in a cute little agriturismo on the outskirts of Pienza. The hotel was an old Italian rustico and we were greeted by great weather and a cute dog, Rea.

We had some wine and a tagliere there and got to relax a little.

The time off also enabled me to take out my drone and fly over the city, getting a first feel for its atmosphere and capturing some captivating shots of beautiful buildings in front of a picturesque scenery.

Later that evening we went into the city, searching a spot to park for too long but then really enjoying the city at dusk.

What a sunset to park to!

After a quick stroll through the alleys we found the restaurant my brother had discovered on a visit a year earlier. They served an excellent pasta – everything was excellent really – and had a phenomenal wine selection at incredible prices.

We had some dessert to conclude the night and then headed back to the hotel for some good night’s sleep, as the next days were going to be action-packed.

Ciao!
