The Czech Tour Eiffel

PRAHA, ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA

This day was a day packed with activities from ESN, the Erasmus Student Network.

It began with a relaxed brunch at Cukrarna Mysak, an authentic Prague cafe. I had a ‘deconstructed egg benedict‘ along with an espresso – an interesting combination I must admit.

The participants of ESN were both bachelors and masters students from all Erasmus countries
Deconstructed egg benedict, a tasty but not strikingly typical Czech dish
I did not order this but it looked nice, so here is a picture of sweet pastries that were offered

The next stop was Petrin Tower, a steel truss tower constructed for the industrial exhibition of 1891 as a miniature of the real french Tour Eiffel. In 1951 it received a TV antenna and later was opened to the public, enabling us to gain some fascinating views over the city.

The Strahovsky Klaster, a nearby monastery we saw when ascending the hill to the tower

What is that logo supposed to be?

After grabbing an overpriced cappuccino at a coffee bike next to the tower, we walked down the hill to get typical Czech lunch.

We could have taken a cablecar instead of walking…

Upon seeing the food, however, me and some friends decided we would prefer something lighter, so we headed to the closest Italian place, where I had a Caesar salad and the others went for pasta.

Unfortunately we had lunch in a bit of a rush since there was a brewery tour scheduled for half an hour later. We almost made it on time (14:03 instead of 14:00) but too late – the publican has not read the ‘hospitality 101’ so he laughed and gave none of us (nor the other group that came a bit later) any of the beer we paid for and that was part of the tour. I did not take any pictures there.

The last big etappe of the day was taking a train to Slovakia, where I would ski with other students of my master‘s degree.

Me with ‘light’ luggage, i.e. 50% skiing equipment, 30% photo/video equipment and 20% usual travel stuff

Fortunately the train we had booked was quite comfortable, and RegioJet business class (20€ one way) provided me with some champagne, although choosing a sleeping compartment probably would have been the wiser choice.

On the way I watched some series, edited some pictures, prepared this blog article. Moreover, I had a look at the map of the skiing area we would be at for the weekend:

We arrived in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia, a bit after 4am

Ahoj!
