Montepulciano, Toscana, Italia
18/04/2022
Another day in Tuscany, another day of exploring.
After a trip to beautiful Montalcino the day before, this day we set out to discover Montepulciano, a rather well-known Italian township on top of a hill known for its “Vino Nobile”, small alleys & view over the surrounding countryside.
After finding a spot to park on a little square downhill of town, we walked up the hill through the gate of Montepulciano. It was a perfect spring morning with pleasant temperatures and blue skies.
Having walked not even five minutes we were soon to discover a beautiful restaurant that also happened to have a fine selection of wines, so of course we had to stop.
We then continued our stroll through the city. It is fascinating how much more ones notices of a city when not in a rush. The narrow streets were surrounded by old-facaded houses with little stores on the ground floor. Numerous cafés alternated with authentic boutiques and the close buildings were only occasionally interrupted by even smaller paths facing downhill towards the countryside.
As you would expect, I just could not withstand my urge to take aerial photos and videos of beautiful places. I therefore sent my drone out to take in Montepulciano from above.
We subsequently came by a cute little Fiat decorated with leather articles. What a curious choise for advertising – but it worked, we all looked at it excitedly.
As you might imagine, walking through a city for half a day sure makes hungry. And lucky us: we were in Italy, so off we went to the restaurant where we had admired the wine bottles earlier. Despite it being fully booked we were able to convince the waiter that the people who reserved the table for 6 were surely not coming and that we’d happily take it. It was a good choice.
After re-energising with Aperol Spritz’, delicacies & good talks we drove downhill to take a look at “Tempio di San Biagio” and – you guessed it – take some drone shots of it, too.
We then continued home, asked the hosts of our agriturismo hotel to prepare some affettati and went on to visit some friends of the family for a relaxed evening in the Italian countryside.
Ciao!
