Tuscan Seas and Corsican Hills – Corsica Day 1

For this summer’s offroad adventure, a week touring the island of Corsica lay ahead of me and my dad. For this, we had a ferry booked out of Livorno, Italy to Bastia, France..

Tuscan Colours

To get there, we crossed beautiful Tuscany, spotting Lago di Massaciuccoli between the mountains and the ocean. The scenery was an inviting opportunity to get my drone up in the sky for the first time during this trip, and even before leaving the mainland.

Shortly thereafter, we were on our way to Livorno.

Ferry Tale

After waiting for a while for the ship to start boarding and spending another while on that process, we went to the top deck for much of the four hour journey. With blue skies and a calm mediterranean ocean beneath us, we set off for Corsica.

Welcome‘ to France

Despite or because of it taking another hour or so to disembark, we were all the more excited to start our tour along the island. For the first day, we set off northwards. With the sun already starting to set, we were eager to find a spot to camp soon.

The drive took us along the ocean for a while and then westbound towards into the mountains and across a abandoned village (as per Google Maps). I thus started my drone to explore, but was soon interrupted by a tiny, topless, yelling frenchman asking me to stop or he would get his gun and shoot it down. In light of this, I figured it smart not to try my luck. Needless to say, we drove off.

The not-so-abandoned village

The scenery got more remote by the minute and shortly thereafter, we passed an old church and drove up the hillside, from where the ocean and setting sun were observable.

Leading away from the stone road, we spotted an overgrown offroad track which seemed promising: protected from the wind and preying eyes, yet with excellent views of the surrounding area. This would become our spot for the night.

A picture-perfect campsite on the hills of Corsica.

Once the car was parked safely (and evenly, since the rooftop tent would otherwise not be flat enough to sleep in), we opened a nice bottle of red wine and I started photographing the landscape.

After dinner with such a beautiful view, it was time to get some rest before our next day of exploration.

À bientôt!
