Birdwatching up close – Ecuador #6

Mindo, Ecuador

Before leaving Mindo, we had one last stop planned at a hummingbird watching point. This bird sanctuary offered us the opportunity to get significantly closer to the animals than before. We sat on a wooden porch and waited for them to come by. With my camera in sport mode, I was ready to get some nice shots of the birds. I was not disappointed.

Of all pictures, those of the hummingbirds by far captivated me most. The speed with which these little birds fly around, hover and turn around in the blink of an eye is truly astounding.

Moreover, the place had a small and frail tower which enabled us to get up to the tree tops, where many more colourful birds were active.

We spent what must have been over an hour watching and photographing the birds. Then it was time to wrap it up and get going, as we had another excited spot coming up next.

¡Hasta luego!
