Wien, Österreich

The day after returning from skiing in Leogang, my best friend Ryan was coming to visit me in Vienna. And as it always goes, it was set to be a fun weekend!
On the morning of 25 February I took my scooter through cold but sunny Prater, the park next to my apartment. It wasn’t too long before I was at Ryan’s hotel, or at least what I thought to have been his hotel…
Turns out, he stayed at “Hampton by Hilton” and I drove to “Courtyard by Marriott”. You really can’t make this up. Anyway, the hotels weren’t too far from one another, as it was just the campus of WU separating the two. Fortunately, WU features a nice bicycle highway on its back side, so I was at Ryan’s hotel in no time. Once there, we had some nice breakfast with hash browns, eggs and bacon for a good start into the day.
We then took our scooters for a ride along the Danube canal.
In the early afternoon we made use of the hotel gym, which featured a neat view over Würstelprater, the all year round amusement park of Vienna.
Our day continued to Schnitzelwirt, a pretty well-known but also pretty touristy viennese Restaurant featuring large pork Schnitzel, which we devoured before embarking on what was to become the mother of all bar tours.
The first stop was Moby Dick, which was so BLT-friendly that my girlfriend would have been envious of Ryan and me being there. With the drink, they brought one of these water-application temporary tattoos which they though we were looking forward to applying on each other. Well, figured wrong, we weren’t. Nice thought though. I am sure they have “shipped” (is that how you use that word? Picked it up from my little sister, I am getting old, I digress) heaps of people in the past but that night was not the night. They tried, anyways. We had another drink there, that time in one of those Hawaii-Tiki jugs to play into the perception, and then moved on into the city centre.
Our next stop was Josef Highball Bar, a cozy basement in Vienna’s Bermuda Triangle District of the city centre. Back then, the head bartender Benjamin still worked there, so one drink after another was a unique composition. One included a Snickers-infused whiskey. Witness below the preparation of two “Adult Film Celebrity Martinis”. Actually, they were called a little different, but I do not intend to attract the wrong crowd to this blog.
For our last stop of the night, we sat down at Truth & Dare cocktailbar. Funnily enough, they offer a drink called “Onlyfans Martini” (this time actually called that), featuring Vodka, Vanilla, Rhubarb and Champagne (or most likely Prosecco). Good stuff!
With a long and exciting day behind us, we said goodbye and Nasti & I went home.
Auf ein baldiges Wiedersehen!
