A few days after landing in Vienna, having cruised the desert and felt a bit of summer already, it was time to go skiing. You may remember last year’s post from Leogang, featuring a selection of snow & food themed pictures. This one will follow a similar theme.
Arriving in Leogang
17/02/2023
On 17 February I took the car to reach the little town of Leogang. From Vienna it was about a four hour drive. Not too bad, but also one making me look forward to finally arrive and relax in the mountains for a while. Of course with skiing and good food. Once there, already the first dinner delivered on this expectation.
Onto the mountain!

On my first full day in the area, the weather was perfect and me and my family were stoked for the day ahead. On our way up, I wrote a local friend of mine to let him know I was near his hometown and going to be skiing there for a few days. A bit of chatting back-and-forth revealed that he was right on top of our mountain, so we decided to meet there. Not even five minutes later we were there and ready to go. And will you look at the mountains!
Given the information that my friend Christoph was from a nearby village in the mountains, you can imagine that his pace when going down the slopes stretched the boundaries of physics. Because of this, we did a round trip of the entire mountain chain that day. 27 lift rides., 10 176 metres of altitude, and 54,97 kilometres of slopes to be exact. In under 6 hours. Upon returning home, it was quite late and you can imagine how much we were looking forward to dinner.
More food!

The next day we took it a bit easier: we had breakfast and then got on the slopes, skiing the entire day for 29,05 km with a quick break for lunch at a ski hut, and enjoying dinner at the hotel.

Monday had a lot in common with the day before: 27,6 km of slopes, and a nice menu to finish the day right.
Summit shooting

Where ever I am, whenever the weather is nice, I have this deep longing inside to bring my camera. So of course I did not want to miss the opportunity to take some pictures on the snow-covered peak when the occasion presented itself. We did a photoshoot in the deep snow and I proceeded to fly my drone around. I don’t think I will every get tired of a panorama like that.
… aaand more food 🙂
Cheese/y story time!
22/02/2023
Wednesday included mere 17,5 kilometres of slopes only, but a pretty good Kaiserschmarrn at a ski hut.
The evening featured the usual variety of meat, fish, veggies and deserts, as well as a cheese platter my sister and I ‘composed’ at the buffet.
Storytime.
Thing is: dinner was possible every night until 8pm, which for us is the earliest time any one of us would go have dinner. But considering that the ‘average’ German and Austrian has dinner at 6 to 7pm, you can imagine how they would have a little head start at the cheese buffet. Now, normally I am not the person to put my towel on the pool lounger so to say, but after being late to the cheese party multiple consecutive nights, my sister and I figured we would go and get our well-deserved selection of cheese already after having our starter. And as you can see, the cheesy variety speaks for itself!

Thursday pretty much looked like this:
… so no more talking about Thursday!
Homecoming
24/02/2023
On Friday it was time for me to return to Vienna. I had a relaxed breakfast before packing my car and getting under way. The mountain roads were in good condition and thus fun to drive. I have to admit, the vibe of driving through the snowy mountain scape with music blasting was a great way to finish my trip!
Pfiat di!
