Plage Blanche, Maroc
09/02/2023
The next day was our last day in the dunes. We had our breakfast and then packed everything up to make our way northbound.
The high tide had flattened the beach to the point where once moving, velocities of 40-80 kph were doable. The speed was needed for two reasons: 1) the muddy sand gave in once one was going too slowly and then it was easy to get stuck, and 2) the beach went on for kilometres without end in sight, so even going fast it took a while to reach the end.
At the end of the 30km stretch a rather steep track led up to the top of the cliff. This was no obstacle for our Landy. Once on top, French tourists with two rented underequipped cars figured that they could also do a little trip down, so they drove downhill to the beach and slowly but surely started to disappear in the distance.
We on the other hand enjoyed the view and took some more car photos.
After our little break we continued our drive over rocky roads, later proper streets, then gravel roads and then streets again.
On our journey we also came past a school were some children were on their way home. We had brought some sweets and colour pencils that we handed out, but frankly the situation was a little chaotic.
Since our aim was to cover quite some distance and reach Marrakech by the evening, we stuck to the impressively well-built highway, which also featured impressive sceneries.
We got a hotel room at “TARGA FIT” with secure parking on the outskirts of the city. The place offered tasty dinner which concluded our long day of travelling.
Our track
Apart from the long stretch of beach and gravel roads to the highway, we took the highway most of the distance to make good progress. You can see where we started at the Plage Blanche on the bottom and drove all the way to Marrakech in the north.
Au revoir!
