Paris, France

On day 2 in Paris, we wanted to see some sights. We kicked the day off by getting some wonderful pastries (and another quiche) and then went to LV Dream, another Louis Vuitton exhibition. The exhibition gave some background on the nascence of the ‘maison’ (translated: house; i.e. how fancy people call fashion firms) and there were many interesting designs on display there.
Naturally, this also offered numerous exciting opportunities for Nasti to get some pictures taken. Especially with the colourful lighting.
What was quite cool to see – and what I had not seen until then – were all of the lifestyle, sports and furniture items by LV. I doubt that anyone would use them for anything other than decoration, but they were somewhat cool.
Moreover, while this may have been obvious to some, I thought that the coloured cans on display were actual rich-people fancy paint cans. It did not occur to me that people would wear a handbag with “exterior paint” written on it … also, for 2160€ I thought there should at least be some paint included.
Having spent most of the late morning in the exhibition, we were keen to get going and see the actual sites. So after a quick stop at a nearby bakery, we walked over to Musée du Louvre. We took tons of pictures in the yard and then continued to the side entrance, which as Nasti had learned online featured a significantly shorter cue to enter the museum.
After strolling the gallery for a while, we walked through Jardin des Tuileries over to Musée de l’Orangerie, which hosts Monet’s water lilies. The place was quite calm and not overly full with people, so it offered a good opportunity to take it slow.
By the time we left the Orangerie it had gotten quite late, so Nasti and I wanted to get dinner somewhere. So we walked a while past the nearby Champs-Élysées and through Chinatown.
We ended up having relaxed not-so-french dinner at an Irish pub before going to the hotel to freshen up for our evening plans.
For that evening we had tickets to an evening event at Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Création. As you have probably noticed by now, we did have a significant bit of Louis Vuitton exposure on our travels. But I promise it will be less for the next posts.
The entire place was full of people and featured a huge assemblage of modern artworks to admire. There was also a live concert going on, but by the time we had finished our first round of drinks the band was apparently already on their way home. Therefore, we did a tour of the many levels of exhibition instead.
Once at the rooftop, we were excited about the architecture of the building overall but couldn’t help but complain about the many missed opportunities to have the building interact with the surrounding area and skyline. No matter where we stood or sat, it was quite hard to spot anything.
Having gotten quite exhausted from the day (and noticing that the organisers were slowly but surely kicking people out), we decided it was time to head back to the hotel and continue exploring the next day.
