Bellinzona, Ticino, Svizzera
03/09/2022
Coming from Lugano, Bellinzona was right on my way back to Zurich. The capital of Ticino is famous for its UNESCO world heritage: three castles next to one another.
We exited the train and walked through the small town to reach Castel Grande, the biggest of the three.
Once there, we circled the fortification and even followed a long castle wall all the way downhill. You can see what I am talking about in the picture below – the wall seems to have served as some kind of divider of the valley despite not covering the entire distance. At least not anymore – I am not sure if it did in the past .
Additionally, being on the hill of Castel Grande also allowed us to see the other two castles – Montebello and the even higher Castello di Sasso Corbaro.
After exploring the area a little, we walked downhill into the old town part. There, I purchased some retro postcards and we walked past a city festival that was coming to an end. You can see some of the traditionally dressed locals and musicians below.
Having seen a lot of Bellinzona in little time, I parted for Zurich and Cristiano took the train back home to Rivera.
Ciao!
