Budapest, Magyarország
26/03/2022
Saturday started with a nice late breakfast. After searching for a café that was not fully booked for almost an hour, we found ‘Stika Gastropub‘, a place with lovely atmosphere and real good looking & tasting food – at western prices though.
The next stop was Corvinus, the business university of Budapest, as our city tour was to start from there. Before it did, I took a look inside though. I must say I really liked the atmosphere as well as the super-pretty bathrooms they had. Truly fancy!
As the university is located right next to the Danube river, the spot also proved to be a great location for takeoff and discovering the bridges, buildings & skyline from above.
We also took a group picture from above.
After this, we continued by foot to cross the bridge and then hiked up “Gellért-hegy“, a mountain that gave us a unique view of the city.
Once we reached the top it actually occurred to us that the statue of the lady holding the surfboard was actually a liberty statue “Szabadság szobor” holding a branch into the air. Pity, would have been funnier otherwise.
We had a look at the royal palace “Budavári Palota” as well – it is really worth a visit! – and later wanted to grab dinner together. However, an unexpectedly closed restaurant and different walking speeds led to us eventually splitting up and each finding our own foodstuffs. I decided to take that evening easy and relax a little on my own, while many others decided did a fun clubbing night out.
Ignoring a quick trip to a thermal bath the next morning, this concluded our Budapest Reunion and together with Kristin, a friend from uni, I took a flight and was home in a few hours.
Viszlát!
